Mom Pie
In this book, two boys fill a pie tin with items that remind them of their mother when she is too busy fixing a holiday dinner to pay them any attention.
Children fill a pie tin with items reminding them of someone significant in their lives. They name the pie after the person and explain the significance of each item in a written paragraph. Pies may be put on display.
The focus can be appreciation (Mother's Day, for example) or loss (a pet or loved one's death or illness). Teacher generates conversation about what makes someone special to us, and how we can remember those things when we miss them.
