Words Come to Life

I just had a delightful two weeks.

I had the great good fortune to be invited to narrate the audio version of Emmy & the Incredible Shrinking Rat with the incomparable Bruce Coville, along with a motley crew—oh, excuse me, I meant to say a fabulous cast of characters! Here I am with Bruce directing, and Tim Green in his role of the Rat.

We taped over the course of ten days, and it was very fun to see how the whole process worked. But better yet was the chance I had to meet everyone involved, and hear these wonderful actors bring my words to life. How strange and joyful it was to hear a whole room full of people laughing at words I had written long ago—and then listen as they put their hearts and talents at the service of those words.

I wrote this book as a writer usually does—in isolation, in solitary confinement.  Now, I saw that the book had gone far, far beyond me.  It had become a group project, and someone else was directing.

I was grateful to be a part of it all.
