Tenacity, Part I
Setting:
Coffeeshop

Characters:
Published author, aspiring writer

Mood:
Aspiring writer: quiet desperation mixed with stubborn hope.
Published author: deja vu.

I have been there. Oh, how I have been there.

I recognize the intensity of desire, and the powerful pull to write that holds on like a bulldog at the throat, regardless of circumstance. If you’re a writer, you keep coming back to the page, no matter what is going on in your personal life. Actually, some days it feels as if writing is one’s personal life. And this man sitting across from me was clearly a writer.

I didn’t know how good a writer: I hadn’t yet read his work. But as I listened to his story, what came through most clearly was that he wasn’t going to quit.

That’s a writer in my book.
