Judging by Numbers
I had a fun bookstore visit recently.

I’d been blogging with schoolchildren in my persona as the Rat, one of the characters in my book, and there was a lot of enthusiasm.  It was wonderful to see the staff scramble for more chairs, and move bookshelves around to find more space for those who had to stand.

Best of all was the chance to connect with the kids. They had a lot of ideas they shared with me, and I really enjoyed talking to each one as they stood in line to get their books signed.

But not all author events are like this. I remember one, in the same town, just a year ago, where only three people showed up. Actually, four, if you count my husband.
