You Are an Extremely Great Author
Okay, I have to admit it. I love praise. I especially adore fan letters—kids who tell me that I am an “extremely great author,” and kids who ask “how old are you?  Because I really want you to keep writing and never die.”

Adults write great fan letters, too. I love the ones that say “my kids were pacing at the exciting parts because they couldn’t sit still,” or “the boy in my class who hates to read ordered his very first book ever today—and it was yours.”

And I love good reviews—especially the starred ones. They make a difference in sales, and believe me, they are very fun to read.

But adulation is tricky. It gets addicting. And that is very dangerous to a writer.
